The teaching collection at LSTM is well established and particularly strong in the areas of tropical diseases, epidemiology, public health, humanitarianism, entomology, parasitology, child and reproductive health and the associated biological, medical and veterinary sciences.
The Archives house around 500 items of semi-published or unpublished documents which could be described as grey literature and they also hold the Archive of Professor Brian Gilmore Maegraith, Dean of LSTM during the years 1946-1975 and a major figure in both the School and in the wider field of tropical medicine. The archive includes the Professor’s diaries which span many years and have detailed entries covering his research, work at the School, his many overseas visits and his contact with a number of eminent figures both in Britain and overseas. The remainder of the archive consists of scrapbooks, photographs, glass slides, papers both loose and in box files, and related books and reprints.
This tour of the LSTM library will give attendees a brief overview of the history of the school and how recent developments (becoming an HEI in July 2013) led to what was effectively having to set up the library service from scratch.
There will be the opportunity to look at the Historical collection and view archive material. Refreshments will be provided.
