Sponsored by Demco Interiors, this event will explore how library and information sector employers and LIS learning providers can work together with CILIP to make sure we are equipping library and information professionals with the skills employers need now and in the future.  The programme includes a presentation, panel discussion and workshop as well the opportunity to build networks and discuss sector and professional issues.

The event is FREE to attend and we welcome employers, leaders, LIS learning providers, and heads of service from across all sectors. Refreshments are provided including a welcome lunch and a post event drinks reception.

  • Carol Boswarthack

    Head of Barbican and Community Libraries

    Barbican and Community Libraries

    Head of Barbican and Community Libraries, she runs the lending libraries in the City of London with a remit including community centres, estate housing office and Children's Centre services. She has nearly 40 years' experience of working in London public Libraries in 5 authorities: Tower Hamlets, Camden, Waltham Forest, Redbridge, City of London. With experience of  working in lending, reference, local history and music libraries; and several years of specialising in Children's work including setting up a toy library at Swiss Cottage and co-writing a classification scheme for toys and heading up the service at both Redbridge and the City of London. A past President of the Association of London Chief Librarians, an active member of the Society of Chief Librarians Executive she spends most of her time on budgets, partnership working, statistics and fire fighting but  always find time to read every day.

  • Stephen Latham

    Head of Profession for Knowledge and Information Management

    Government

    Stephen Latham has worked in a range knowledge and information management roles in the Civil Service over 26 years including appointments at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Department for International Development and HM Revenue and Customers. He is currently Head of Knowledge and Information Management at the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and responsible for library and information services to Defra, Natural England and the Animal and Plant Health Agency. He is also currently Government Head of Profession for Knowledge and Information Management and leads work to develop the professional skills and capabilities of over 1000 knowledge and information management professionals working in central Government.

  • Simon Edwards

    Director of Professional Services

    CILIP

    This directorate brings together the Member Services Team (including Member advice and administration, the network of Branches and Groups, and Continuing Professional Development) and Facet Publishing. Simon has worked in libraries since the age of 15 and previously worked for MLA South East as both Library Development Manager and Development Director. Before joining CILIP he worked as a Project and Change Manager for West Sussex County Council delivering a number of key strategic projects (including the restructure of the Children's Social Care Department and setting up a new modern records file store and retrieval facility for the County Council). He is currently leading the Future Skills Project and Branch and Group review for CILIP.

  • David Stewart

    Regional Director of Health Libraries North West

    David Stewart is Director of Health Libraries North – leading the strategic development, co-ordination and monitoring of all NHS library and knowledge services across the North of England. David is a CILIP Trustee and Board member and founder of both the CHILL and HEALER networks. He is part of the strategic NHS library leads group that is delivering Knowledge for Healthcare, Health Education England’s framework for service development.


     

    Previous posts include Director of Information Services at the Royal Society of Medicine and Deputy Director of Health Libraries in Oxford Region. David has a first degree in medieval & modern history from Birmingham University, qualified as a librarian in 1981 at Birmingham Polytechnic and obtained his CILIP Fellowship in 2012.
