The Library & Information History Group is seeking a new Conference Organiser to organise the annual LIHG Conference. Some tasks associated with this role include: selecting a venue and liaising with the venue’s events person; liaising with a small group of people who have an academic interest in the topic of the conference; putting together a call for papers (generally with the help of the small group) and ensuring that it is publicised; considering proposals submitted (again with the group); corresponding with potential speakers and advising them whether their proposals have been accepted’ compiling a programme for the event and ensuring that it is publicised; and taking bookings for the event and corresponding with participants.
The committee is proactive and enthusiastic in promoting the history of libraries and information and the Group regularly organises visits, talks and events that attract a wide and diverse audience. The Group holds four committee meetings per year: two in-person and two online, via email, and the Conference Organiser will be expected to attend as many of these as possible.
Please note that this is a volunteer role and is not a paid position. The candidate must be a member of CILIP or willing to join in January 2018. Reasonable travel expenses to attend committee meetings and events are reimbursed.
