Have you ever wondered how CILIP's Youth Libraries Group judges select the winner of the annual Kate Greenaway medal, which is awarded for outstanding illustration in a book for children? Do you like discussing books and meeting with like minded people in an informal setting? Fancy learning some new skills with this excellent CPD opportunity?
Well, you might be interested to hear that we are setting-up our adult 'Shadowing group' again this year to read and discuss this year's shortlisted illustrated children's books, and to decide which one we think should win! Two discussion meetings will be held during early evenings in a Newcastle pub on Thursday 27th April and Wednesday 7th June 2017 (prior to the official winner being announced on 19th June 2017)!
If you'd like to start reading, the 8 titles shortlisted for the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal 2017 (alphabetically by illustrator surname) are:
Braun, Dieter – Wild animals of the North
Gravett, Emily – TIDY
Grill, William – The Wolves of Currumpaw
Kay, Jim – Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (text by J.K. Rowling)
Riddell, Chris – A great big cuddle (text by Michael Rosen)
Sanna, Francesca – The journey
Selznick, Brian – The Marvels
Smith, Lane – There is a tribe of kids
Feel free to come along even if you aren't familiar with current children's books or haven't been able to look at the books, as copies will be available to peruse at the meetings.
If you'd like to register your interest in joining-in or request further information, please email email@example.com by 5pm on Wednesday 20th April.
You are very welcome to download or print the flyer attached, and promote these events to your colleagues.
